Matthew Perry: ‘Friends’ Star’s Death Certificate Released, Cause of Death Deferred Pending Toxicology Reports

In a recent development, the death certificate of Matthew Perry, the well-known actor from the iconic TV show “Friends,” was made public. This comes three weeks following his unexpected death. The certificate was issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and was first obtained by Deadline.

Perry, 54, was found deceased in his hot tub on October 28, 2023, at 4:17 p.m. Initially, reports suggested that his death was due to an accidental drowning. However, the official cause of death is still pending as toxicology reports are awaited, which could take anywhere from six weeks to six months.

Despite having undergone an autopsy, the death certificate did not reveal any new information regarding the circumstances of his passing. Perry’s history with substance abuse and alcoholism was well-documented, but those close to him have affirmed that he was sober and in good spirits before his death.

A respected figure in the entertainment industry, Perry received multiple Emmy nominations throughout his career. He was also an author, known for his book “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”

Perry’s funeral took place on November 3 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. It was attended by his “Friends” co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc, reflecting the close bond they shared both on and off the screen. In a collective statement, the cast expressed their deep sorrow and devastation at Perry’s untimely departure, marking a significant loss in the entertainment world.
