Builders of January 6 Gallows Remain Unidentified Despite Ongoing Investigations
Washington, D.C. – In the early hours of January 6, 2021, a group of unidentified individuals were captured on surveillance video unloading materials and constructing a gallows on the National Mall, directly in front of the U.S. Capitol. This ominous structure, prominently featured in photographs of the day’s protests, has become a symbol of the unrest that unfolded.
The footage, provided to the Patriot Freedom Project by the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, depicts these individuals assembling the gallows in plain sight. Despite extensive law enforcement efforts and the charging of thousands of individuals for their roles in the January 6 events, the identities of these particular builders remain a mystery.
Ed Martin, an attorney representing several January 6 defendants, obtained and released the footage, further commenting on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. Martin detailed how four individuals set up the gallows early that morning, highlighting the meticulous nature of their actions. He also noted their visit to a nearby coffee shop, speculating on potential connections or implications.
Martin, who also serves on the board of the Patriot Freedom Project, a nonprofit aiding arrested individuals and their families, expressed suspicions that the gallows were intended to cast President Trump and his supporters in a negative light. He questioned the lack of police intervention during the construction, despite no evidence supporting these claims.
Representative Barry Loudermilk, a member of the subcommittee that released the footage, raised concerns about the FBI’s investigative efforts. He noted the clarity of the images and suggested that the FBI has pursued other cases with less evidence.
The incident has prompted questions about law enforcement’s response. Loudermilk questioned why the structure was allowed to remain throughout the day’s events and why it was not dismantled earlier by the Park Police, Capitol Police, or the FBI.
The Department of Justice and the FBI, having charged over 1,200 individuals across all 50 states for various offenses related to January 6, did not comment on inquiries about the gallows builders. The cases range from assaulting law enforcement officers to destruction of government property, with the majority facing misdemeanor charges.
In a related development, a manhunt for Gregory Yetman, a former New Jersey National Guard police sergeant facing felony charges linked to January 6, recently concluded. Additionally, complaints about conditions at the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where many defendants are held, led to an inspection by the U.S. Marshals Service, uncovering potential systemic failures.
The Justice Department reaffirmed its commitment to holding accountable those responsible for the January 6 attack, emphasizing the ongoing and unprecedented scale of the investigations. However, the fact that the gallows builders remain unaccounted for amidst these extensive efforts continues to be a point of contention and mystery.
