Breaking News: Hunter Biden Defies Congressional Subpoena, Rejects Closed-Door Testimony
In a significant development in Washington, DC, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, openly defied a congressional subpoena today, stating his refusal to testify behind closed doors. This decision comes amidst escalating tensions in the House of Representatives as they prepare for a vote on an impeachment inquiry against President Biden.
Speaking to the media outside the U.S. Capitol, Hunter Biden emphasized his willingness to respond to questions in a public hearing but rejected the House investigators’ demand for a private testimony scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today. His non-compliance is anticipated to play a crucial role in the discussions leading up to this evening’s impeachment inquiry vote.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) recently highlighted several allegations implicating Joe Biden in the family’s business dealings. These include substantial financial transactions from foreign entities linked to the Biden family, numerous interactions between Joe Biden and Hunter Biden’s business associates, and an alleged $5 million bribe received by Joe Biden during his vice presidency.
Hunter Biden, countering these allegations, insisted on the legitimacy of his business activities and firmly denied any financial involvement of his father. He accused the House Oversight Committee of conducting investigations based on distortions and manipulated evidence.
The House Oversight Committee, chaired by James Comer (R-KY), along with Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), have threatened to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress if he fails to comply with the subpoena for both public and private interviews. A conviction for contempt of Congress could result in a fine of up to $100,000 and imprisonment.
As the situation unfolds, Hunter Biden’s non-compliance raises questions about the next steps Congress might take. Comer, speaking to Politico, asserted Congress’s expectation of compliance with the subpoena and hinted at the possibility of holding the president’s son in contempt if he continues to defy the order.
