Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

In a remarkable development, Hamas has released 13 Israeli and 12 Thai hostages, marking a significant turn in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The hostages, held for over six weeks, were released as part of a broader agreement that includes the expected release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel.

The Israeli hostages, including women and children, were transferred to the International Red Cross at a hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza Strip, and are now heading towards the Rafah border crossing into Egypt. From there, they will be handed over to the Israeli army. Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has confirmed the release of the Thai nationals.

This exchange is part of a larger deal between Israel and Hamas, which also encompasses a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, effective since early Friday morning. The agreement involves a series of exchanges, with a total of 50 hostages and 150 Palestinian women and teenagers in Israeli prisons expected to be released.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is overseeing the safe transfer of hostages. Once released, the individuals will undergo identity verification and medical examinations before being reunited with their families.

This development is a rare glimmer of hope in a region long plagued by conflict and signifies a potential step towards broader negotiations and peace.
