Major Shake-Up in Pro-DeSantis Super PAC as Three Key Officials Depart

In a significant development affecting the 2024 presidential race, three top members of the super PAC supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have exited the organization. This move signals a period of turmoil within the governor’s political framework as the Iowa Republican caucuses loom just six weeks away.

Kristin Davison, a recent appointee to lead the super PAC Never Back Down, has parted ways with the organization. This departure comes on the heels of the resignation of CEO Chris Jankowski less than two weeks prior. Erin Perrine, the communications director, and Matt Palmisano, the director of operations, also left the group on Saturday, as confirmed by sources familiar with the group’s internal dynamics.

In response to these departures, Scott Wagner, a staunch ally of Governor DeSantis and a member of the group’s board, has been named the interim CEO and board chairman.

Never Back Down has been pivotal in DeSantis’ presidential campaign since his announcement in May, managing most of the candidate’s organizing and advertising. However, the recent reshuffling at the top echelons comes at a critical juncture, with DeSantis facing increasing competition from former President Donald Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Despite federal campaign finance regulations preventing direct coordination, Never Back Down has been integral to DeSantis’ campaign operations. Notably, Governor DeSantis appeared in 92 out of 99 Iowa counties at events organized by this super PAC.

The super PAC, initially infused with over $80 million from DeSantis’ political funds, has been under the stewardship of Jeff Roe, a renowned Republican consultant. However, with Roe’s current status with the group unclear and the departure of key staff, questions arise about the future direction and effectiveness of Never Back Down.

Observers close to the matter perceive these departures as a move by DeSantis’ loyalists to regain control over the super PAC’s operations. Amidst these changes, Never Back Down maintains its robust Iowa presence, with over two dozen staff members still actively organizing for the upcoming caucuses.

Governor DeSantis, known for his limited circle of political consultants and reliance on his wife, Casey, as his primary adviser, faces a new challenge in this latest campaign turmoil.

In a recent social media post, former President Trump commented on the situation, hinting at disarray within the DeSantis campaign.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the 2024 Republican primary race, underscoring the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of presidential campaigns.
